Hypertrophic or keloid scarring due to surgery or trauma

Whether you’ve had surgery or an accident, a nasty scar is a permanent reminder of a traumatic event in your life. Hypertrophic scars are the result of an over production of collagen in the wounds healing phase, causing the scar to become red, raised and lumpy. Keloid scarring results from the same thing but the new collagen expands beyond the boundaries of the wound causing the area to become much larger and noticeable. Both types of scarring are completely benign but may cause some pain and intense itching.
